In 2018, Shreeja India started the Damini Project with Kolkata Police to train young slum dwelling girls in Kolkata at two localities. The program was designed to inculcate the spirit of confidence and teamwork among these girls so that they could face the world with self-respect and dignity. Our mentors conducted regular motivational talks, psychological trainings and provided after-practice refreshments. When the initiative gained momentum and stability after ten months, Shreeja India handed over the project to Kolkata Police. Damini Project remains an inspiring example of football being used as a tool for development. It empowered 200+ street girls in Kolkata.
