Shreeja India’s Football & Beyond, Birbhum program empowers marginalized tribal girls and young women physically, mentally and socio-economically. We believe that sports (Football) assimilated with out-of-school learning can substantially increase their continuation in schools, improve their academic performance and support their transformation into becoming leaders of tomorrow.
In India, even if village girls enroll in schools early, around 63.5% of them quit schools during adolescence. Being first-generation learners, they are unable to reach the minimum proficiency levels in reading and mathematics. This often de-motivates them to continue with their learning. Almost 27% of these girls are married before the age of 18 years and 70% of them suffer abuse in different forms across the nation. Lack of female agency remains a major obstacle in their education and subsequent empowerment. Shreeja India’s Football & Beyond program aspires to solve these key challenges as the benefits of this program move Football & Beyond fields and classrooms to positively impact the lives of our beneficiaries.
